She dreams of attending the University of North Carolina and becoming a reporter, no small ambition for a woman in 1916. During her time at university she meets cocky yet charming Robert Belhurst, the editor of the Tar Heel newspaper. The two are constantly at odds, but mutual respect grows from their sparring matches. Just as their relationship develops into something more, the United States enters World War I, taking Robert and Matthew overseas, leaving Eve behind to wait. The war forces her to make difficult decisions that will alter her life forever.
The Education of Eve is a coming of age story set during World War I in North Carolina.
